Coursework Essay

The coursework question is:
How does Miller manipulate our perception of John Proctor in The Crucible?
Homework for Monday 23rd Nov. is to write the introduction to your essay.
The introduction should include some
background info. For example, when the play was written and when it was set and how McCarthyism and the Salem witch trials can be seen as a parallel. You might want to explore why you think Miller wrote the play (what was he trying to achieve?). You might want to mention the meaning of the title (or you could keep this for later in the essay). The essay will focus on Proctor. What is Proctor's role in the play?
The article below was looked at in class:
Here are a few links to pages which discuss Proctor. (Be careful: your essay must be your own work. Do not use extended phrases or sentences that are not your own! You can take ideas from sources but you must write everything IN YOUR OWN WORDS!)

1) What does Lewis say was Proctor's main motivation?
2) Why did Abigail act as she did?
3) Why might the girls have behaved as they did?
4) How was Salem society a 'repressive regime'?

Miller on The Crucible

Homework for Monday 9th November 2009:
Check out the following sites with articles by Miller on why he wrote The Crucible.
Read at least one of them and post a comment. Your comment should be between 150 and 200 words long, should refer in some way to the article and should address the general question: Why do you think Miller wrote the Crucible? If you have used a username that does not identify you, please state your name or initials at the end of your comment!
If getting a Google id is beyond your level of computer literacy please email your comment to my school email address and I will transfer. This must be done by Sunday 8th Nov latest.
Thank you.
